Fokker F.28 Fellowship Rear Cabin - c.1976
| |
The Departmental Flying Unit's Fokker F.28-1000 Fellowships were fitted with sixteen comfortable passenger seats in the rear cabin, in addition to the Flight Survey consoles installed in the forward cabin. This enabled the carriage of a ground survey party and, on longer trips, an engineer. The passenger seats also allowed the aircraft to be pressed into service as general and VIP transports if required. For example, the Ministers responsible for aviation were regular passengers when travelling on Departmental business. During the 1989 airline pilots' strike, Prime Minister Bob Hawke also used Departmental aircraft for transport.
